Attendance and Supporting Medical Conditions in School

WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Our whole school attendance target is 96% (2023/2024)

Regular and punctual school attendance is important.

Pupils need to attend school regularly if they are to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them by law. Children who are persistently late or absent soon fall behind with their learning. Children who are absent from school frequently develop large gaps in their learning which will impact on their progress and their ability to meet age related learning expectations.

The Nawton and Rosedale Abbey Federation fully recognises its responsibilities to ensure pupils are in school and on time, therefore having access to learning for the maximum number of days and hours.

Mrs Claire Owuor is our Federation Attendance Champion

The Federation School Attendance Champion is the senior leader who is responsible for improving and maintaining good attendance in our Federation

In September 2024 the Department for Education published new guidance for schools on maintaining high levels of school attendance.

Members of the Attendance Action Alliance have worked with the Department for Education to develop a short guide to help parents understand how they can work with their school to support school attendance and access the right support if necessary.

Supporting Children with Medical Conditions in School

The Children and Families Act 2014 places a statutory duty on governing bodies of maintained schools to make arrangements to support pupils with medical conditions. A child’s mental and physical health should be properly supported in school, so that the pupil can play a full and active role in school life, remain healthy and achieve their academic potential.

The Department for Education has issued statutory guidance and departmental advice (best practice) on supporting children at school with medical conditions. The governing body of our Federation has regard to the statutory guidance in this document.
