What is the Sports Premium?

The government is providing additional funding for Primary School Sports.  Funds are jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and money is going directly to primary school Headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

Larger schools receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year (time limited) and this money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. Rosedale School receives £500 per pupil.

Purpose of the funding

Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport in general, but they do have the freedom to choose how they do this.

In 2014-15 our funding has helped to enhance our provision funding the following:

  • The development of the school playground to encourage active play.
  • The replacement of old, & the purchase of new, sports equipment.
  • A joint school sports activities with Nawton CP School.
  • A contribution towards the annual Year 5 and 6 residential visit for outdoors activities
  • The provision of a ten week swimming programme for Y1 to Y6
  • The school’s engagement in inter-school events based at LLS and Ryedale secondary schools
